Relief—The Stories We Carry presents a new selection of work by Bela Suresh Roongta that explores the expressive potential of the human figure through the artist’s dual figure drawing and writing practices. Through the lens of her East Indian roots and with a nod to the drawing practices of the Renaissance “Old Masters,” she demonstrates with each iteration in drawing, etching, screen printing, and narrative writing the complexity involved in reading and representing a body.
Bela’s inherently vulnerable representation of these works not only proposes a new way to see the figure, but also immerses viewers in an emotional and sensitive portrayal of human experience and potential.
