As the beauty, wonder and intrigue of Saint Kate starts to unfold, so too are the makers behind Kate’s house. Russell Bowman, former director, Milwaukee Art Museum, and founding art advisor, Sculpture Milwaukee, and Linda Marcus, nationally recognized multi-disciplinary artist, designer and storyteller, have started the process of carefully assembling Saint Kate’s permanent art collection. And today the collective talent of Russell and Linda welcome Maureen Ragalie to the team as Saint Kate’s curator.
Together this trio has put together an art collection highlighting works by artists who are influential in the contemporary art world. Over 100 pieces of art will challenge thinking, dismantle barriers and immerse guests into the creative process.
Having managed contemporary art collections at several galleries in New York City, including David Zwirner Gallery and Cristin Tierney Gallery, Maureen is returning to her roots as the curator of Saint Kate’s permanent collection. A Milwaukee-area native, Maureen has a passion for preserving and managing high-end contemporary art collections and is ready to share Saint Kate’s narrative with visitors and residents alike.
“We welcome Maureen as curator of Saint Kate. As the guardian and storyteller of these diverse pieces, she will open people’s minds to new thinking, encourage exploration and connect guests and the community to the spirit of creativity pulsing through the new hotel and our city,” said Marcus.
“I am excited to help curate the Saint Kate. This collection brings together a diverse array of contemporary art to Milwaukee. Artworks include well-known and influential contemporary artists, as well as emerging artists, particularly those with connections to the Midwest. We hope that the Saint Kate visitors will be intrigued, challenged and engaged by depth and diversity of the collection,” said Ragalie.
