Hamilton’ run in Milwaukee helps both theater, community

In David Bodette’s mind, the Saint Kate hotel “crushed it” over the past month thanks to the Milwaukee debut of “Hamilton.”

Lin-Manuel Miranda’s smash musical about one of America’s founding fathers played for the first time in the city beginning Oct. 22. Bodette, Saint Kate’s general manager, said “Hamilton” helped the hotel break records in its theater attendance crowds, starting in the first week. The run overlapped with performances of “West Side Story” at the Milwaukee Repertory Theater, leading Saint Kate at one point to sell out its valet service.
