Marcus and Timm kicked off their partnership in August with three new exhibitions at Saint Kate, Making Room (various artists), On a Daily Basis by Amy Cannestra, and Finding Space by Yoonshin Park. The two Co-Curators are reorienting the Curatorial Vision of Saint Kate, encouraging featured artists and guest curators to utilize the gallery spaces as a platform for their own voices and perspectives.
Linda Marcus is known for her fashion and textiles and the importance it plays in contemporary life. In her work as a designer and artist, Marcus takes her knowledge of clothing and re-contextualizes it by removing it from the body and onto the wall. Marcus is also the Creative Director for Saint Kate and was instrumental in bringing Saint Kate to life. Marcus’ background in journalism and storytelling aided her in curating the 100-piece contemporary art collection for the hotel along with the art for the guest rooms. Marcus’ art has been nationally and locally shown at several galleries and museums.
Samantha Timm was also with Saint Kate during the early stages of its inception, since April 2019. In her role as Co-Curator, she is passionate about being a resource to help guests and hotel staff access the art collection. Timm comes from a strong background in art history and curating that morphed into a multi-faceted engagement with the contemporary art world. Drawing on her previous positions in museums—ranging from curating exhibitions on 19th-century British art to working in visitor services—she strives to facilitate meaningful art experiences for guests. She is in a constant state of wonder at the innovative methods and materials of contemporary artists and believes that art history and contemporary art are most powerful when in conversation with each other. Timm holds a Master’s Degree in the History of Art from the University of York.
